(Photo_Opening Banner)On April 3, 2023 at 2:00 pm, the ‘1st Samcheok Land Art Festival’ event was held at the Urban Regeneration Creation Hall.The opening event, hosted by Samcheok City and organized by Samcheok Haslla Co., Ltd., was attended by 40 people, including Sang-soo Park, Mayor of Samcheok, Jeong-soon Chung, Chairman of the Samcheok City Council, invited artists from home and abroad, and residents of Jeongrajin. An open studio program was also planned to enable young people who dream of becoming artists to directly communicate with foreign artists and discover the artist's world of art.At this festival, various creative activities were supported to give domestic and foreign artists opportunities to participate and to form a social network with domestic and foreign artists.The continuous expansion of the cultural and artistic areas has also been planned so that the event can establish itself as an international cultural and artistic attraction by promoting the unique color of Samcheok City through the event. (Photo_Opening ceremony for groups) Festival participants included invited foreign artists such as Javier Mariscal (Spain), Ken Hiratsuka (Japan), Emiliano Lorenzo Vincent (Spain), and Sequoyah Aono (USA), as well as domestic artists such as Ok-yeung Choi, Grace Park, Kyeong-hwan Kim, Si-young Lee, and ABSTRACT. In an earlier interview, Professor Ok-yeung Choi, who was in charge as the festival's general director, said, "This festival is part of the mission to articulate the entire city of Samcheok.“ Javier Mariscal, a representative Spanish artist, said, “I hope this space I participate in will be a kind of resting place where humans can relax comfortably as one of the intermediate areas to connect the city and the sea, and I think this project is not only for tourists but also for the local community and residents. It will be the beginning of renewing Samcheok, and Samcheok will become a wonderful place where many people can visit and experience world-class art.”
